Welcome to Breach – a highly strategic mode that closely resembles a game of chess. Players arrange their cards as shown below, and then brace themselves for an intense battle where they must breach their opponent’s defences and defeat their King.
Objective
Cross over to your opponent’s side and defeat their King.
Setup
Both players must place their cards face up exactly as shown above. The player with black cards (white pieces) will go first.
How to Play
1. Players take turns choosing one of their cards and use its ability to switch places with another card. (See Card Values and Effects.)
2. If a player switches places with one of their own cards, they simply trade places.
3.If a player switches with an opponent’s card, they trade places and the opponent’s card is defeated. It is placed face down and becomes an empty space.
4. Cards can only be swapped with other cards that are on the same side, or on the border of the other side.
5. The game is won when a player defeats their opponent’s King.

Strategy
Switch with opponent’s cards to defeat them and switch with your own cards to move around or get them out of trouble!
Remember: There is no check. If you’re not careful, your King can be taken out before you know.
Some sacrifices will need to be made in the early game to make space. Don’t forget that you can only switch with a card that is on the same side as the card you have chosen, or on the border. (This stops players from instantly defeating their opponent’s pieces from deep within their own side.)
Pawn: Switch places with a friendly card one vertical space away, or an enemy card one diagonal space away. Does not switch backwards unless a different friendly card initiates the switch.
Bishop: Switch places with a card that is diagonal.
Knight: Switch places with a card that is three cards away in an L shape.
Rook: Switch places with a card that is in the same row, or in the same column.
Queen: Switch places with a card that is diagonal, in the same row, or in the same column.
King: Switch places with a card one card away. (Win the game when any of your cards switches with your opponent’s King.)
